5 Pre-Health Clubs to Join on Campus!

By: Sanaa Alam ‘25

Are you interested in joining clubs to meet like-minded pre-medical friends while helping the community? Look no further! Here’s a list of clubs I have joined that allow you to serve the community through science and can help you meet friends who you might see in your pre-health classes:

Mobile Clinic

Members work with the unhoused population in Downtown Los Angeles and participate in clinics and shelter nights where you play board games with residents to build relationships and aid the community. Clinics include screenings for A1c and hypertension with the guidance of physicians from Keck Medical School. This organization is great for building your interpersonal skills and a strong network of ambitious students driven to provide for the local community.

Time Commitment: 1-4 hours/week

Science Outreach

At the start of the semester, students are assigned to a session and a placement with students in first, second, or third grade. Each week, USC students complete science experiments with elementary school kids. Not only is this club a good way to meet other STEM majors, but it’s also a fun way to connect with the youngest members of our surrounding communities!

Time Commitment: 2 hours/week

Health Sciences Education Program

As a member, you give health presentations on topics like mental health or cardiovascular disease prevention to middle and high schools around Downtown Los Angeles. You get the opportunity to interact with the local youth and broaden your perspective on health. Because of the relatively small size of the organization, it is a fantastic opportunity to get to know other pre-health students and gain the guidance of upperclassmen peers.

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/week

Southern California Healthcare Outreach

Through this group, you learn about the different types of healthcare plans available to different demographics. Once you’ve learned the information, you’re able to speak with people at community events to educate them on available insurance plans. Being a healthcare provider means advocating for your patients including their physical and financial needs, and SCHO offers insight on how to do so.

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/week

Alpha Epsilon Delta

If you’re looking for a premedical community full of fun, approachable, and determined people, then try AED. As a pre-medical honor society, they offer insight into the medical school application process along with opportunities to get involved in the medical community through philanthropic events like volunteering at health screenings and making bracelets for patients.
Time Commitment: 1-3 hours/week (as a new member)
