Celebrate Black History Month, Trojan Style

Happy Black History Month, Trojans! In February, we take time to celebrate Black students, professors, history, and culture on this campus and beyond. In honor of the month, here are a few events you can still hit!

2020 Black History Month Legacy Project Unveiling

Every year, the USC community unveils commemorative artwork celebrating community and history for Black History Month.

The legacy project this year is a vibrant mural for USC’s Center of Black Cultural and Student Affairs. Amani Holbert, USC student mentor, and student artist Keviette Minor and other local youth artists collectively worked on this year’s art project, which will be unveiled on Thursday, Feb.20th at 5:00 pm at the USC Fisher Museum of Art.

The Black Experience in Healthcare Education: Challenges and Opportunities

Blackness in healthcare has been a trending topic over the past few years with celebrities like Beyonce and Serena Williams speaking of their negative experiences with childcare. On Thursday 2/20, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 at the Keck School of Medicine’s Mayer Auditorium, a panel discussion of current African-American graduate and health professional students will share their experiences on the journey to becoming graduate and health professional students at USC.

Sign up here if interested in attending.

Spoken Justice

Head to the USC Fisher Museum of Art on Thursday 2/20 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm for Spoken Justice! Presented by USC Center for Black Cultural and Student Affairs, this evening event features dynamic spoken word performances and engaging panel discussions around social justice, equity, and inclusion.

F.R.O. Fest

Any cinephiles? Head to F.R.O. Fest on Friday 2/21 starting a 5:30 to see films reflecting Black culture/life by Black U.S.C. students at USC’s Fisher Museum. Enjoy live music, food, and movies by students from the Center for Black Cultural and Student Affairs (CBCSA).
