Academic Services & Tutoring for When You Need A Little Extra Help

By: Karla Leung ‘22

Classes can be difficult and it’s always beneficial to reach out for help. Of course, you often think to first contact your TA or professor to get some help in classes, but for cases when that’s not enough, you can always take these convenient and FREE options provided by USC! Classes can be hard, but it’s surprisingly easy to get some extra help!

Tutoring

Many people don’t realize that USC has a peer tutoring program that is completely free! By requesting a tutoring session, you can receive an hour-long tutoring session in subjects including accounting, biology, chemistry, language, math, music, and many others! All you have to do is go to the Tutor Request System, select your subject, and find a time that works for you!

Writing Center

The Writing Center is also an amazing resource to receive any writing help you may need! At some point in your time at USC, you will most likely have to write an essay and the Writing Center is always available to help you! Located on the 2nd floor of Taper Hall (THH), all you need to do is set up an appointment online here and receive one-on-one help. They can help you with anything in the writing process including coming up with ideas, critical thinking, revisions, and more.

Math Center

The Math Center is the perfect place to go whether you’re looking for help or just need a place to study. The Math Center works as a drop-in study room, where you can meet up with study partners or find people in similar classes to you to work on homework. If you need assistance, graduate students, faculty members, and assistants are there to answer questions! It is located in Kaprielian (KAP) 263 and is open 8am-7pm Monday through Thursday and 8am-5pm on Fridays! You can learn more here

Academic Coaching

The Kortschak Center for Learning and Creativity provides a unique space where students can come in and find a quiet space to study or cope with stress. They have Academic Coaching, which can help you form better study habits, better your time management, help you create goals, and cope with stress. Although they’re not there to revise your paper or look over your homework, they’re there to help you develop the other skills that go into college success. You can find more information here on how to sign up; it’s a one hour a week commitment!

The Kortschak Center also has daily drop-in hours if you don’t want to commit to the program, where you can meet with a coach and discuss test-taking tips, how to manage time, or coping with stress. They vary by day but they’re open every weekday! You can find their hours here! They also have a Creativity Corner, a computer lab, and a quiet study room available if you ever need a space to study or relax. You can find the Kortschak Center in the Student Union (STU) 311!
