Spotlight: The Freshman Football Experience
By: Maddie W. ‘20
Football season is a staple of the USC experience, and nothing beats going through it for the first time as a freshman. Most first year students spend the fall semester assembling the perfect game-day outfit, bouncing between fraternity tailgates, and navigating an overcrowded campus on their way to the coliseum, but for a select group of freshmen, game-days don’t involve any barbecues on the row or a crammed student section. No, for the freshmen football players, game-days are all about lining up with their “brothers” and watching their hard work pay off. I had the opportunity to sit down with red-shirt defensive linemen Jay Tufele and Marlon Tuipulotu who told me all about their first year being a part of the team, and how the football team takes the phrase “Trojan Family” to a whole new level.

LinkedIn Tips and Tricks
By: Danielle Collins ‘20
Network! Connect! Search! Getting started on LinkedIn can seem daunting, but once you get the hang of it, it’s very manageable. I recently set up my LinkedIn account and have been slowly adding to it. I’ve met with a career advisor, and gotten advice from friends and people who work in my field about how to best use LinkedIn. I’m by no means an expert, but I thought I’d share some of the helpful tips I’ve learned so far! I’ll walk you through some tricks I’ve learned for how to create your LinkedIn profile, how to make connections, how to best use the “Search” feature, and how posting works. Check out whichever section you want to learn more about, or all of them if you’re new to LinkedIn!
Spotlight: Nail Garden To Go or Not To Go?
By: Maddie Walsh ‘20
If you have been to the University Village recently, you’ve probably walked past Nail Garden, that fancy-looking nail salon by Honeybird. My initial reaction to having a nail salon in The Village was negative. It seemed extra and unnecessary. With Baked Bear, Cava, and Wahlburgers in place, the additional temptation to spend money felt cruel. Then came this past weekend. I had a free Saturday for once and my nails desperately needed attention. Curiosity and laziness propelled me towards Nail Garden and before I my wallet could protest, I was sitting in one of the high-back chairs with polish colors in hand. Was it worth it? In my case, YES! Keep reading to see the list of reasons why I would recommend the Nail Garden experience.
10 Reasons to Consider Building Government
By: Maddie Walsh ‘20
When building government (BG) elections came around last year, I completely rejected the idea of running for a position as something I would NEVER do. However, when the application to campaign opened this year,I thought why not? I was looking for more leadership opportunities and wanted to be more involved on campus, so I decided to run for president of the Cale and Irani Residential Colleges. At the time, I really had no idea what I was signing up for, but being a part of residential student government (RSG) turned out to be an extremely formative experience.
Preparing for Finals
By: Alexis Peters ‘20
Well, ladies and gents, that time of the year is upon us. The time filled with tears, and anger, and coffee, and late nights, and studying. Lots and lots of studying. Yep! It’s finals time, which means the semester is coming to an end. (Cheering and applause) And while we’re all excited for those relaxing summer days, finals is usually the most stressful time of the entire semester. But what would you say if I told you it didn’t have to be that way? I’m not promising miracles, but if you follow these simple tips I can guarantee significantly fewer tears. Sound good? Awesome. Unconventional Grad Photos
By: Jamie Wu ‘18
Mudd Hall, Doheny Library, VKC arches are all great places to take graduation photos at USC. But how often do USC students actually spend the majority of their time at those places? We take an inside look into a student who chose the non-traditional path of graduation photos. When asked why she opted for these unique photos, Anna responded with: “I wanted to take graduation pictures that truly defined my last 4 years at USC. While taking the typical photos on traveler or popping champagne bottles are aesthetically pleasing, I wanted to capture my authentic USC experience. Taking these photos were exhilarating because people were staring at us and taking Snapchats the entire time, but we didn’t care at all. Life is so much more fun when you aren’t afraid to be yourself.” For photography, I personally believe that the best photos are the ones taken with no editing, no filters–just you and the camera. So naturally, when Anna and I combined our ideas this is what we got. We went around some of her favorite spots on campus to shoot for these authentic photos.
