LA Activities to Enjoy Before Summer Break:
by Ela Rybak
For seniors, graduation is just around the corner, and for everyone else, summer break is fast approaching! That means it’s time to wrap up the school year on a high note while also enjoying all the exciting activities LA and USC have to offer.
LA Times Festival of Books: Happening right on campus, this exciting event is set for April 26th and 27th and is completely free and open to the public! Whether you're a book lover, an aspiring writer, or just looking for a fun weekend activity, there’s something for everyone. The event will feature a wide range of book sales, unique pop-up shops, engaging author signings, hands-on workshops, and even the chance to spot some celebrities. With so much to see and do, this is a must-visit event that promises an unforgettable experience!
LACMA Jazz Fridays: You probably know about the LACMA nearby, but you might not know that from April to November LACMA hosts free jazz nights open to the public with local to internationally known names. This is the perfect opportunity to pack a picnic with your friends or partner and live out your La La Land dreams, soaking in the vibes and enjoying the fun atmosphere!
Beach: This one might seem obvious, but as an LA native, I want to share my two personal favorite beaches in LA! If you're looking for something close to campus, Manhattan Beach is a great option. It has clean waters perfect for swimming, a picturesque pier to stroll along, and plenty of shops and restaurants to explore. However, my all-time favorite beach has to be in Malibu. I absolutely love the hidden beaches you can access from the little passages off of the PCH, offering a more secluded vibe. But if you're in the mood for stunning views and a nice hike, Point Dume is the place to be, with its breathtaking scenery and outdoor trails!
Griffith Observatory Hike: Before the heat kicks in, take advantage of hiking up to the Griffith Observatory for stunning views, or if you’re feeling more laid-back, pack a picnic and just grab an Uber to enjoy the scenery without the hike. With hikes of all lengths, you can pick the one that works best for you. Try to time it so you reach the top by sunset for a stunning view of LA and the Hollywood Sign. The view of LA and the Hollywood Sign at that golden hour is absolutely breathtaking and a perfect way to unwind after a busy day.
Soundbath:For a relaxing start to your day, experience a Soundbath in the peaceful James Irvine Garden in Little Tokyo. Led by a holistic practitioner, this is the perfect chance to bring your yoga mat and enjoy the fresh scents of the garden while listening to the soothing sound of the waterfall. Afterward, you can grab a coffee and snack to complete the experience. Just be sure to buy tickets in advance—it’s exclusive to the month of April!
While this last month of school can be stressful, try to enjoy it as much as possible too!
