Gender Equity Resources at USC

By: Lauren Liang ‘23

In honor of Women’s History Month, Trojans360 wants to bring your attention to gender equity resources at USC, ranging from academics to mental health. For a more comprehensive list, please consult the USC’s Student Equity and Inclusion Programs (SEIP) website

ACADEMICS

Interested in the study of gender and sexuality? Check out the Gender and Sexuality Studies department! Via the department’s web page, taking courses in gender and sexuality can build learning competencies in critical thinking, research, skills, intersectionality, justice, equality and power, and decoloniality. Next semester, courses such as Social Analysis of Gender, Identity Development of the Contemporary Female, and Introduction to Feminist Theory (which you can get GE credit for) are being offered.

PRESENTATIONS

Want to learn more about gender and sexuality but don’t have the space in your schedule to take a full course? Not to worry – you can check out the Gender and Sexuality Studies department’s Educational Presentations, such as 19th Amendment, Black Lives Matter, and Women and Greek Mythology

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

SEIP provides professional development resources for women and members of the LGBTQ+ community, like USC Women in Science and Engineering and USC Women in Management. In addition, SEIP provides an extensive list of clubs and organizations complete with descriptions.

MENTAL HEALTH

An individual's mental health needs can be intertwined with their identity, which is why USC offers groups and workshops such as Gender Spectrum Group, The Healing Room: Women of Color Support Group, and BIPOC Mental Health counseling through students’ MySHR portal.

SEXUAL ASSAULT/ HARASSMENT

The Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention and Services office is located in USC Student Health’s Engemann Student Health Center Suite 356. The office “provides immediate therapy services for situations related to gender- and power-based harm (e.g., sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking)”.
