Best 2 Unit Classes for Fall 2024

by Maya Lopez ‘26

This might be a controversial opinion, but course registration is my favorite time of year. There are so many possibilities for your schedule and it’s fun to complete the puzzle of all your classes to craft ‘the perfect schedule.’ 2-unit classes are a great way to add in an elective or raise your GPA. If you have space in your schedule and are looking for a 2-unit class to fill it, these are the 2-unit courses I recommend for Fall 2024.

PHED 119: Intro to Mindfulness

I took Intro to Mindfulness this semester with John Kneedler, and it was the most impactful class I’ve taken at USC thus far. In the class, you start a regular meditation practice and learn actionable ways to incorporate mindfulness into different parts of your life. This is a great class to take if you’re looking to feel more grounded and at peace.

CNTV 375: Breaking into the Entertainment Industry

If you want to go into entertainment, this is the class for you. I have been recommended this 2-unit course countless times. Breaking into the Entertainment Industry offers “An overview of the entertainment industry and the tools needed to secure jobs and survive and succeed in the market”– what more could you ask for in a city like LA?

CTWR 404: Foundations of Comedy

I have a couple friends who have taken this class, and they all want to take it again! Professors who teach this course Foundations of Comedy are passionate about what they teach and have unique experiences in the field. Even if you aren’t in SCA, take this class for a light workload with lots of giggles.

BAEP 465: Digital Playbook for Entrepreneurs: Creating a Tech Startup

Are you interested in entrepreneurship? This class is open to all USC students, even if you aren’t in Marshall. Think of this class as a crash course in digital entrepreneurship. If you take BAEP 465 you will learn how to use a variety of digital technologies to grow and start whatever entrepreneurial ventures you’ve been dreaming about.

SPAN 280: Conversational Spanish

SPAN 280 is the first 2-unit course I ever took at USC. This course is only available to students who already speak Spanish fluently or have satisfied the SPAN 220 prerequisite. For Spanish speakers, this class is an easy and fun way to keep up your Spanish if you don’t find yourself in many situations where you speak it often at USC. Additionally, if you’re pursuing a Spanish minor or need to satisfy a language requirement, the units from this course can count towards those benchmarks.
