Advice from a Spring Admit to Other Spring Admits
By: Camila Grases ‘21
Welcome to all the newest additions to our campus! During these first few weeks, perhaps you have started to feel as though you aren’t so welcome here, maybe if it’s because people already have groups of friends, a routine, an understanding of campus. If you are an introvert like me, this sentiment is probably even worse, the size of the university may be overwhelming. But do not worry, all your peers who seem like they have got it down were once in your position. My hope is that by the end of this post you feel welcome and you feel like you have a place here. It’s gonna take work but it’s worth it.
A letter to my fellow graduating seniors.

It’s senior year y’all! And whether you transferred to this beautiful school at some time during your colligate journey or have been here since year one… the lessons we’ve learned and our growth deserve to not only be celebrated but to be reflected upon.
Air + Style: Music Festival Recap
By: Terry Nguyen ‘20
What originated as a snowboarding competition 21 years ago in Innsbruck, Austria has grown to be a global event that merges the latest music and the sport into an unforgettable two-day experience. From Feb. 18 to Feb. 19, Air + Style brought the world’s best snowboarders to downtown Los Angeles’ Exposition Park and rising artists, like Grammy-award winning DJ Flume and USC alumnus ZHU. Despite rain or shine, the festival went on for both days from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., and crowds gathered enthusiastically between the Winter and Summer stages throughout the course of the afternoon into late evening. Their energy did not quell between the sets, as hundreds of people bunched towards the front of the stage, anxiously awaiting their favorite artists.
International Women’s Day
By: Grace Carballo ‘17
This morning at the gym I joined in Buenos Aires, a trainer wished me “Feliz Día de la Mujer” which was the first time I’ve ever been greeted this way, although for me every day is women’s day. As someone who identifies as a woman and as someone who identifies as a feminist, I decided IWD is something I should probably be more knowledgeable about and I’ve compiled this handy guide for you, as well. So whether you’re abroad, like me, or on campus when you read this, if it’s March 8th, it is International Women’s Day and you should be mindful of this, because as far as women’s rights have come, we’re not there yet and by there I mean ~equal~. The quote below from earlier today sums this up very well.
If you're one of us, then Caucus
By: Grace Carballo ‘17
I’ve found this particular Monday to be more exciting than most because not only am I in my 5th favorite state, Iowa, in the company of greatness (my grandparents), but also I’m here at a pivotal time- tonight is the kickoff of the presidential nominations process and I was more than willing to travel a few hundred miles and cross the Mississippi to see the Iowa Caucus in the flesh. (For the record, I came from my home state of Illinois, not SoCal - that would probably be taking things too far).
The NCAA Volleyball Tournament, Just Like the Hunger Games Movies
By: Emily Young MA ‘16
Everyone knows that the new “Hunger Games movie: Mockingjay Part 2” is killing it at box offices, but that’s not this week’s top release or box-office smash for volleyball fans across the country. For them (myself included), it’s the NCAA Division I volleyball championships!
Some Things To Know Before You Go

I’m writing this post from my bedroom in my homestay in Managua because I have a little free time due to the unfortunate, but undeniable fact that I am too sick to go to class this afternoon.

Adios, USC Madrid
By: Grace Carballo ‘17
If you kept up with my previous posts this summer, then feel free to skip this paragraph guilt-free, but if not, allow me to fill you in. From the end of May to mid-July, I participated in a study abroad program through Dornsife in which we took two Spanish courses and learned a whole lot outside the classroom, too.
Summer Study Abroad Checklist
By: Grace Carballo ‘17
As I sit amongst my possessions in the beautifully chaotic metamorphosis from unpacking to repacking, I feel mildly overwhelmed by just how much I still have to do before I leave for Madrid on Saturday. I take comfort, however, in knowing that I have already survived finals so I’m probably immune to stress at this point and that I have compiled a very thorough To Do list with the help of those who studied abroad before me and the Internet community as a whole.

Life Moves Pretty Fast

USC is once again hosting The LA Times Festival of Books this weekend but before those festivities commence, there is a movie night scheduled for this Wednesday - a screening of one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
One Man Band
By: Grace Carballo ‘17
If there is one thing I like more than watching a movie it is watching a movie during a class. And if there is one thing I like even more than that, it is watching a movie created by a USC graduate. So naturally I was thrilled when last Wednesday night, my Advanced Screenwriting (CTWR 415A) class went to the Visions and Voices Screening of Llyn Foulkes: One Man Band, Tamar Halpern’s first feature-length documentary film.
