Attending APASA’s “A Conversation with Stephanie Hsu”

By: Hannah Skinner ‘23

For those of you who missed it, the legendary Stephanie Hsu came to campus on April 5th. During the presentation, she shared her personal story of navigating the acting industry from theater to commercials to Everything Everywhere All At Once. In light of Asian American and Pacific Islander Month, the topics of the conversation included navigating the film industry as an Asian American, creative expression through characters like Joy in Everything Everywhere All at Once, and, moving forward, the expansion of storytelling in cinema to be more inclusive and genuine.

USC Celebrates Dr. King

By: Ellice Ellis ‘20

This past Monday the USC Black Staff and Faculty Caucus honored the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with its 36th annual Dr.King Celebration at Tommy’s Place. I attended the event which featured performances by USC Students; Celeste Butler, Elshaddai Mulugeta, M.C Omete Anassi, and a powerful lecture from guest speaker and actor Gerald C. Rivers. These performers praised Dr. King calling him a timeless prophet and a true visionary; along with sharing their talents with USC students, faculty, staff, and guests of the university. When the celebration started I was happy to hear the students and faculty singing the black national anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing” by James Weldon Johnson; a song that for is not often performed at many events around campus. The event went on to be the pinnacle of black excellence not only showcasing student talent but acknowledging the words and important messages that Dr. King had to share.

Crosstown Showdown: USC Men’s Basketball takes on UCLA at 7:30 Tonight!

By: Emily Young MA ‘16

USC Men’s Basketball is on fire. The team’s 17-5 start is its best since the 1991-92 season. Not only is the team playing spectacular, but tonight’s game determines who runs LA. USC Men’s Basketball has already defeated the UCLA Bruins (13-9) at Pauley Pavilion 89-75, but they need our fan support for the clean sweep. (Our last regular season series sweep over the Bruins was in 2010).

USC's Fall Career Fair

I was in desperate need of a new bike lock last spring and found one after browsing USC’s “Free & For Sale” Facebook page. I met outside of campus with a student who was coincidentally also studying Public Relations in Annenberg and we immediately began to talk about our plans for summer (I was starting my first internship and she was starting her first job following graduation). I asked her for advice on how I too can lock in a full-time position upon gradation.
