Takeaways from the Asia Pacific Virtual Career Fair

An odd and extensive game of corporate speed dating, USC’s semesterly career fairs have always been one of the biggest events on campus. But as all events were moved online this spring, the school continued to host a virtual career fair as well as a smaller, separate one for the Asia Pacific region on April 23rd PDT, the latter of which I attended; here are my takeaways from this novel experience.

I remember the day I got this little red and yellow box in the mail. It was in late March of my Senior year of high school. I was coming back home from Debate practice at around 6 and at the sight of two little boxes just chillin’ on my doorstep, my breath caught in my throat. I wasn’t really sure what they were about whatsoever, but they seemed rather important and they had the colors of the school I had just committed to on them, so. I was anxious and excited and maybe a little teensy bitsy sweaty but upon opening them, I learned one thing and one thing only: I was going to China.

Sure you stressed over making your resume look great to highlight your experiences, but when it comes to selling your self and creating a short narrative all you’ve got on your internal monologue is: “Ummmm, I really need this job—I’d actually be pretty great at it. I’ve already spent forever on this online application and I just really need to get this done.”

Things I Learned While Hunting For a Summer Internship

My current class standing is a bit odd. It’s a gift and a curse because I have to spend an extra semester at USC while my classmates are entering their full time jobs as graduates this spring. In a way, it is also a gift because I now have an extra summer to take advantage of the internship programs offered by potential future employers.
Advice for the Juniors

With Spring Break behind us, we only have five weeks left until this school year comes to a close. For seniors, their times of juvenile hijinks and inconsequential party behaviors will cease – unless they’re attending graduate school – as they delve into the real world. Freshmen and sophomores can steer clear of any stress since these teenyboppers have over a year left to attempt to figure out their lives. And then there’s the juniors, like myself, who are lingering at the crossroads. We can choose to engorge ourselves with alcohol and chill out as summer approaches, but deep down, we know that walk across the graduation stage is right around the corner. It can be a confusing time for us soon-to-be seniors, so I have some advice for those who are at the same stage in their lives as me.

As the excitement of my birthday, Fathers’ Day and graduation for both my sister and brother (middle school and college, respectively) fades away, I’ve slowly gotten settled into a routine. As great as it was to have so many celebrations, the last two weeks since coming home from Israel have been a little exhausting. Now that it’s my third week interning, I also feel like I’ve gotten the hang of it. Since I haven’t really talked much about it beyond my first day, I thought I’d share a little bit about what I do.
Meeting Steve Carell (Another Day on the Job)

Today at work, I met Steve Carell. He just came right up to me and said, “Hi, I’m Steve.” Duh, I know you are Steve. Like clearly…who else would you be? Also, it shouldn’t be too surprising that he popped into the office; after all, Carousel Productions is his production company—and I do spend four days a week there buying time and reading scripts.
First Day Jitters

As I arrived at the imposing Los Angeles Times building in downtown L.A. on Monday morning, I thought the feeling in my stomach was just nerves. After all, it was my first day at an amazing internship that I would be dedicating the majority of my summer to.
