Why You Should Check Out Trojan Talent

Short answer? To watch some films, listen to music, and check out art. Long answer? It’s a celebration of amazing student work: visual and auditory, scientific and creative — and it deserves more attention! I was pretty shocked when I checked out Trojan Talent for the first time for the sheer fact that there was just so much stuff! To top it off, everything on the site is phenomenal! This platform is a great way to explore the creations of your fellow students and honestly just keep yourself entertained. There’s too much content to tackle it all in one, or even two or three sittings — but even if it’s just a single short film or song, you should definitely check it out! After exploring all that Trojan Talent has to offer, you may even want to submit something yourself!

Stop What You Are Doing and Register for USC President Nikias’s Class this Spring

If I were a freshman or sophomore, the top class I would have on my registration list is USC President Nikias’s class “The Culture of the Athenian Democracy” (CORE 200). Almost anything can be tied back to the ancient Greeks in some manner: democracy, personal freedom, debate, rhetoric, fine art, architecture, the Olympics, even common sayings. Studying the classics, Antigone, Oedipus the King, and Philoctetes, allows you to examine society today from a different lens. Do the ends always justify the means? Is there honor in lying to serve a nobler cause? Is heroism a struggle against fate? Not only will the readings lead to interesting discussions, the discussions will be lead by one of the greatest minds at USC, President Max Nikias.

Rini Sampath and Jordan Fowler are the first all-female running ticket in USC and Pac-12 history. Despite a discouraging remark from a fellow peer–– who expressed her concerns of having two female student leaders––Rini and Jordan have received an overwhelming amount of support from both men and women, Greek and non-Greek students alike. They’re also the most endorsed ticket in USC history, currently standing tall with 48. I had a chance to meet with them after their debate and discuss platform points, USG background, and how these two accomplished women came to become partners in crime this USG election.

Alexa Trujillo is a current junior studying business with a minor in web technologies and web applications. She has been involved in the Alumni Committee for USG, was a USC Song Girl last year and is an active member of Delta Gamma. Alexa, though beautiful inside and out, faces the same feelings of self-doubt that many girls experience throughout college and their entire lives. She has made it her goal to let go of that negative mindset and to start anew with a club that will empower girls at USC and help them find their inner strength and beauty.
