In all honesty, there was a period early on when I wanted to leave USC. It was short-lived but it was definitely real and I really wanted to give in and just take the easier, more comfortable path and go home. That’s what I did my freshman year at Syracuse. I pretty much decided almost immediately that I wouldn’t be staying for long. Had there been no COVID-19 imprisoning me in my 103-degree dorm room with no air conditioning, (no I’m no kidding it was actually that temperature in the room one day,) and impeding me from going out and meeting people, and the fact that 80% of the time my classes were virtual, I honestly feel like I may have come to love Syracuse and I would have stayed until graduation. Regardless of using COVID as an excuse, I didn’t give Syracuse the chance it deserved.

Taking 20 credits can be a lot and it can be especially overwhelming if you have a work study on top of all of it. Though with some organizational skills and setting limits for yourself, having a work study while taking 20 credits can be surprisingly manageable. I’ve shared some of my tips on how I’ve made it work this semester while taking 20 credits and having a work study job as part of the USC Student Life team in Student Affairs.

USC Career Launchpad is your answer to your internship or post-grad job anxieties. For the last couple months, we’ve all been stressing over landing an internship for the summer or landing the perfect post-grad job offer. Figuring out the future is always daunting, and it can be a challenge to curate the perfect resume, make the right connections with people in your field, and have the skillset to stand out.

After being away from campus for so long, my friends and I itched to attend USC events whenever we can. APASA’s Cultural Arts Expo is one of the organization’s flagship events. It’s also Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month at USC, and we’re Asian, so of course my friends and I had to check it out.

In March of this year, I moved across the street from a grocery store, and I realized that I no longer had an excuse to not try new food and make fun, healthy dishes for myself. I’d wanted to explore cooking for a while, but I’d been stuck in a rut of making the same roasted cauliflower and rice on rotation. I have worn the picky eater badge my whole life, and I decided that now would be the perfect time to work on it.

For more than two years, COVID has been a part of our lives. I had never gotten COVID, but that quickly changed this month when I received a call that I had been in close contact with someone who had it. The very next day, I tested positive for COVID-19. This is my experience with scheduling, preparing for, and being in quarantine here at USC!

All of these spots are accessible by walking or taking the metro. So if you ever find yourself wanting to travel around LA on a weekend here are some places you should visit.
