As a graduating senior, I wanted to offer advice to the future generations of incoming USC students. Most of this advice is based on my past experiences, and while I’m not certain what campus events will be like when school reopens for Fall 2021, I hope that this blog post can offer some drops of wisdom that you find helpful.

For students both newly arriving at USC or returning for another semester, finding a new organization to join can be overwhelming. On campus, tables used to line Trousdale as clubs competed for the attention of students just trying to get from one class to another. Over the course of the pandemic, the process of recruitment has shifted to Zoom meetings, where clubs not only had to compete with one another but also the feeling of Zoom fatigue.

I’ve had a couple of interviews these past two weeks or so, and I’ve definitely noticed a pattern: the questions. While every interview was a bit different, the majority of the questions were just variations of ones I had answered previously. The end of the semester is finally here and everyone is eager to get ready for the day when we get to move onto campus. At least, I know I am so ready to move-in and get to see all the internet friends I made over the past year. But, I also know that many of you may be scared and unsure of what exactly you need to know or do in order to make such a big move. I am in the same boat; I have never moved in my life, and now all of a sudden I need to move cross country. So, this will be a learning experience for all of us, but hopefully some of the research I’ve done can help you figure out what you should and shouldn’t do during this big move.

year, USC hosts career fairs for its students: curated events that bring students and recruiters together for the provision of internship opportunities and even full-time offers. Traditionally, career fairs take place on Trousdale Parkway, the thoroughfare of our University Park Campus. Employers would visit campus during the fair and line up in booths along the parkway that students could visit one after the other. Spread across a number of days, the career fair features days for unique presentations as well as companies geared towards specific audiences: such as Departmental Career Fairs for individual schools or the International Students Career Fair. As an international student myself, the International Students Career Fairs have been so resourceful in providing global opportunities for students from different countries and bringing international students closer to jobs that sponsor certain visa types.

What is Meal Prep? Meal prep is when you plan your meals and snacks for the week ahead of time, preparing your meals early on, and portioning them out for convenient meals-to-go throughout the week. Why should you try meal prepping? Well, meal prepping can help you eat balanced and nutritious meals, and exercise good portion control. You can also save money planning and making your meals ahead of time rather than eating out when you’re too busy to cook, or wasting money on groceries that end up going bad before you remember to use them. Don’t know how to cook? That’s okay! Your meal prep journey can begin with simple beginner recipes, and over time, you can level up your meal prep once you feel more confident in your cooking abilities.
