The endless midterm season has fallen upon many of us, and the mere thought of constant, back-to-back exams and midterm papers alone can drive you insane. How can you manage it all? How do you find your own balance? I’m still in the process of figuring it all out myself, but hopefully these tips from my personal experience will help you out!
Reviving Tommy’s Place Trivia
By: Talia Walters ‘20
If you’re anything like me, you haven’t been to Tommy’s Place at all since your orientation when they hosted a party the one night you were there. In all honesty, with the introduction of the Village and the sheer fact that we’re in LA with hundreds if not thousands of different clubs and restaurants, Tommy’s Place isn’t usually anyone’s go-to on campus despite its easy access. And I always saw that chalkboard right outside RTCC with all the events at Tommy’s Place for the week and wondered what they were really like since I know no one who chose to go to them. However, this little experiment that was supposed to take me three days has now taken me three weeks, and even at the time of writing this article, it’s still an ongoing challenge. And I need your help. Thus, this is the story of me attempting to Revive Tommy’s Place Trivia.
A Little Shakespeare for Every Mood
By: Camila Grases ‘21
Shakespeare is simultaneously overrated and underrated. Overrated because he’s Shakespeare. Underrated because there are people who believe the man is boring or underwhelming in his abilities as a writer. But on the contrary, Shakespeare has a little bit for everyone. This past semester, I read a Shakespeare play a week for my Shakespeare class. I thought I would be bored or annoyed, but the opposite happened. I was able to reinvigorate my passion for English and literature. I just wanted to share a little bit of what I enjoyed most last semester, because there’s something for everyone.
Why I Recommend A Social Media Detox
By: Talia Walters ‘20
Two months into the new year, and it’s a good time to reflect on many of our New Year’s Resolutions to see how it’s all going. For me, I’ve given up on most of mine (which is true of almost every year – I’m not a fan of change), but one that I’m still going strong on is a social media detox that I chose to do pretty suddenly. It turns out when your resolutions are things you need to do for yourself, you’re more likely to stick to them – who would’ve thought! Anyways, here’s a review of my experience detoxing social media apps from my life and why I’d recommend doing it.

The Ultimate Meditation Playlist
By: Ellice Ellis '20
It’s almost spring break, Trojans! Many of us have taken one or two midterms, outlined key term papers, or are gearing up to take a relaxing week off from our studies. For myself, I stress more than ever before winter break, summer break, or spring break because I try to balance relaxing and being productive before the vacation period even starts. If you’ve found yourself in this boat or are just generally stressed about school, work or life — this post is for you.
USC Schools as D&D Classes
By: Antonia Le ‘22
Even though we’re all in college now, studying our lives away and striving for a future where we’re all serious adults, we all wanted to be heroes as little kids. We wanted to go on adventures, slay dragons, and maybe wreak a little havoc on the world. If higher education hasn’t stomped the adventurer’s spirit out of you yet, you’ve probably heard of Dungeons and Dragons, a world-famous tabletop roleplaying game that’s spawned popular web series, podcasts, and memes (yes, I’m one hundred talking about the moral alignment charts on USC’s meme Facebook group). As a result, you probably know what alignment you are. But do you know what class you are? If you’ve ever wondered what kind of hero you’d be in another world, read on as I try to assign every school at USC a D&D class.
USG Senator Overview
By: Jordan Bucknor ‘22
The USG election cycle for the 2019–2020 year has officially ended! 4,777 people voted this time around, representing 23.9% of the undergraduate student body. Were you one of them? Although not every student voted, the Senate is meant to represent all students — so getting to know the candidates is probably a good idea. Read more to find out more about each elected senator and what you can expect from them for the next academic year.
Exploring Free Events at USC
By: Claire Wong ‘23
Yes, that’s right! Free! With the costly tuition we are paying, we want to get as much as possible from our experience at USC. One of the neat opportunities USC offers is access to free events to its students, faculty, staff, and alumni. From Robert Downey Jr.’s Q&A panel to the Black Alumni Association Career Chat, there are hundreds of opportunities on campus to hear cool speakers, network with the top companies, get free food, or even watch a movie before it is released to theaters. But with the thousands of organizations and clubs on campus, it can be difficult to hear about these events. Here are ways you, as a USC student, can find and take advantage of the free events of campus.
