How to Trick Your Parents that You Have Your Life Together During Parent’s Weekend
By: Kelly Kinas ‘16
Parent’s weekend is upon us, which is slightly frightening because the first 6 weeks of the semester can be really hectic. Midterms are starting, you’re trying to get involved or back involved on campus, possibly finding a on-campus job, etc. There is so much to do that sometimes your health (and the cleanliness of your room) might fall apart. SO here are some tips you can take within the next week to trick your parents into thinking you have your life together when they come to USC next weekend. You’re welcome in advance. (Side note: all of these tips should be taken with a grain of sarcasm.)
How Well Do You Know the Statues of USC?
By: Michael Boyle ‘18
A key part of USC’s beautiful campus is the many statues scattered about. This test looks to see just how much you know about these magnificent stone creations.
The Weekender!
By: Ayman Siraj ‘18
Last weekend, I and a few friends headed up North to the San Francisco Bay Area to what is the annual pilgrimage for many USC students – The Weekender. This year it was Stanford’s turn to host the USC Trojans for a PAC-12 footballing showdown.
USC Own It
By: Grace Carballo ‘17
Last Saturday, September 24, I had the privilege of attending the inaugural USC Own It women’s leadership summit. Luckily as soon as I heard about it a few weeks ago, I booked my spot immediately, because tickets eventually sold out. To give you an idea of the scale of all this, over 450 students and 65 speakers attended. Own It was started by two Georgetown students in 2013, with the first summit taking place in 2014 and being so successful that it expanded nationwide. The Own It network now encompasses 8 universities including USC, and we are certainly in good company.
Preview of (most of) Theatre Productions at USC This Semester
By: Kelly Kinas ‘16
USC has many theatrical productions every semester. There’s a comprehensive list somewhere. I don’t have that. I have the Facebook invites that my friends in the School of Dramatic Arts send me because how else do I know if I thing is actually happening unless it’s on Facebook? The arts are incredibly important and I would urge you to see as many of these productions as possible. USC has amazing students studying acting and who act just for a hobby. These shows are cheaper than the ones at the Pantages or professional theatre companies here in Los Angeles, you don’t have to drive and try to find a place to park, and all of the shows I have seen have been incredibly high quality. And there’s a show for everyone! Let me explain.

Do you have something you need to study for? (Be honest now!) This test will help you decide which excellent study spot on USC’s campus you should choose for academic preparation today.
Somos Guerreras
By: Grace Carballo ‘17
Last Tuesday Rebeca Lane, dubbed “one of the fiercest voices of Latin American hip hop”, spoke to a captivated audience in Bovard, answered questions (in Spanish and English), and performed some of her powerful raps in an event arranged by USC Visions & Voices titled, “Somos Guerreras: Feminism, Hip Hop, and Guatemala.” She was interviewed by fellow musician, Maya Jupiter (pictured below) to start the conversation and performed with DJ Francesca Harding, who is also immensely talented. My little brother, Nick (Class of 2020) and I were among the many in attendance looking to learn more about Rebeca Lane, hear some of her latest music, and get an inside-look at her form of “artivism”.

The Young Turks films at USC!
By: Ayman Siraj ‘18
The Young Turks, a progressive left-leaning political commentary web show filmed live on campus this last Monday, the 12th of September. Filming occurred at the new Annenberg building atrium. The show has erupted online over the years as they address issues not given airtime by the mainstream news media. The panel featured Cenk Uygur (the founder of TYT), Nando Vila (Vice President of Programming of Fusion TV). The show was hosted by Ana Kasparian along John Iadarola.
Which Famous USC Alum Are You?
By: Michael Boyle ‘18
In the storied history of USC, many graduates have gone on to achieve fame and fortune. But which one of these well-known ex-Trojans are you?
So, what are your post-grad plans?
By: Grace Carballo ‘17
If you find yourself trying to evade this question, though it comes up quite often when you’re a senior, know you’re not alone. It’s not too late to take some steps down the path well-traveled, the career path. The Career Center is chockfull of wonderful resources that can help you wherever you may be in your journey. If I could go back in time I would’ve been a regular in their office starting my freshman year. But hindsight is 20/20, as they say, so all I can do now is soak up all their advice and knowledge and connections before I graduate in May and encourage my brother (class of 2020) to check it out much earlier.
