New Years Resolutions Every 20-Something Should Have
By: Judy Lee ‘17
1. Learn something new: A language, an art, a science, how to apply makeup, how to cut your own hair—tons of DIY skills to be acquired out there! Expand your mind and promote not just a culture of learning, but a wrinklier brain…
New Year’s Resolutions For College Students That Are Actually Possible to Achieve
By: Lauren Brose ‘15
We all have our opinions on 2015. If I could put mine into one word, it’d be tumultuous because 1) the word tumultuous cracks me up and I love using it and 2) my year was a riot. My entire attitude about my year and how I see 2016 going can be accurately illustrated in this GIF below. Last year, I wrote a post on resolutions that are possible to achieve. It included self-improvement goals such as loving yourself, trying new things and treating your body like a temple. These are objectives I believe we all should be achieving even after college. But right now, during your glorious college years, your new year’s resolutions should be focused on ways to enhance your USC experience. I came up with 10 solid ones I wish I had someone tell me take on when I was still a student at USC.
7 Ways to Cope With Reverse Culture Shock (Welcome Home!)
By: Grace Carballo ‘17
For all those who have studied abroad and those who are welcoming home loved ones who were abroad, it is important to recognize that reverse culture shock is a very real phenomenon; it takes time and patience to readjust to life back in the U.S.

Stuck in LA for winter break? No problem. Finals are over, and a staycation doesn’t get any better than:
Things To Consider For Housing: A Check List
By: Judy Lee ‘17
If you’re trying to live off campus this year, you need to have started planning for it by now! But if you’re having some trouble starting out, here are some things you should consider before you sign that lease!
This Blog Post Has Been Inspired by Me Getting Sick (Again)
By: Lauren Brose ‘15
I’m bad luck when it comes to getting sick. Two weeks ago, I took the initiative and got a flu shot mainly because I knew it’d make my mom happy. 48 hours later I was checking myself into the emergency room so I can get hooked up to an IV because I had a bad reaction to the vaccine. Accompanied by a dead arm that reminded me of the days when I got into fights with my older brother, I had a migraine headache, fever and a bacterial infection where the shot was administered. After a week of taking antibiotics, I was free from illness. This only lasted me a week at best. So here I am, sniffling, as I sit here writing this blog post because now I have been blessed with the common cold.
Cool 1&2 Unit Electives Offered Spring Semester
By: Lauren Brose ‘15
Last year I wrote a blog post highlighting all of the cool, interesting electives that I wish I was able to take during my time at USC. To be honest, my course load was so packed with classes required for graduation, I didn’t get a chance to take advantage of the great electives USC offers. Even though my time here as a student has come to an end, I hope to live vicariously through all my friends who are still here! If you’re looking at your courses right now and realize you have 2 leftover units our tuition includes, check out these classes! They’re currently being offered this upcoming Spring!
When All of Your Friends Go Abroad...
By: Kelly Kinas ‘16
It’s that time. First semester juniors are saying their goodbyes as they pack up for 8 months for good. A solid amount of USC students go abroad the second semester of their junior year and we, their friends in any and every grade, must somehow learn to live without them because Skype only does so much.
The Self-Care Report: Why it’s so Easy to Put Yourself Last
By: Emily Young MA ‘16
When you’re busy and tired it can be the first thing to go. Taking care of yourself when you’re in a mental fog and on the brink of exhaustion is the last thing on your list that seems important with looming deadlines, but it’s the most important. Studies show dedicating time towards self-care increases productivity, well-being, and happiness…and even might improve your GPA.
Do What You Love
By: Grace Carballo ‘17
Some say do what you love and you’ll never work in your life. Others like to take it farther and ruin things by adding “because that field probably isn’t hiring.” Usually about this point I interject and tell them how Global Studies is an up- and-coming field and literally the entire world is my oyster, but that’s not the direction I’m heading with this post. As finals begin to affect your sleep schedule and maybe even your hygiene, I want to encourage you to take a short, well-deserved break to ask yourself why you’re doing all this in the first place.
4 Ways To Stay Awake
By: Judy Lee ‘17
I want to preface this by saying SUFFICIENT SLEEP SHOULD BE EVERYONE’S GOAL. Sufficient sleep results in better health, better eating habits, better cognitive power, less cranky tantrums, hating the world a little less, etc.
I’m old now (and other musings after turning 21)
By: Kelly Kinas ‘16
To all those older than 21 reading this blog, I mean no offense. To me, this day has been a long time coming and now that it’s here, I feel old. Luckily, I am surrounded by great resources at USC how can help me through this life-altering event. I’m legal! And now I feel like I should have a 401k. What else can go wrong?
