Independence is Happiness: Being single during your 20s

By: Lauren Brose ‘15

During college, there is so much uncertainty with what the future holds— Not knowing if you’ll get a job, not knowing where will it be, and asking yourself “what’s next for me?” is a daunting experience. I came to this realization my sophomore year. It became clear to me then that I needed to do whatever it took to put myself in a good spot for a job upon graduation. That was when I decided my life is 100% about my goals. I’m sure many of us desire accomplishing a number of specific things before 30 such as traveling the world or moving up quickly in the working world. These aspirations truly reflect who we are as people; therefore, we owe ourselves this time to fully discover who we really are.

Why This Month’s Weekender Will Be Extra Epic

By: Lauren Brose ‘15

Do you remember what made you want to become a Trojan? For me it was my health class in 2010. My teacher (who was undeniably the coolest) from high school was a Trojan. Naturally, he was the driving force behind why I wanted to become a Trojan myself. He talked about Los Angeles, Greek life, our football team, the Trojan Family, and the insanely fun sh*t he did with his friends because let’s face it, USC is AWESOME. For half a year, I heard the most legendary tales of his days as a college student at the greatest school on earth.

LACMArt History

By: AnnaLiese Burich ‘17

Museums: they’re either something you love or you hate. Or, you don’t like them but pretend you do to maintain your #artsy hipster and persona. Me? I love them. I especially love modern art; for a hot second last year, my dream job was to be the curator of the MoMA in New York. I used to be an art history major, so when I go to museums I don’t see random doodles on a white wall. When I see a black canvas, I don’t think to myself “Psh, I could have done that,” but instead of the rich layers of meaning associated with it, both historical and symbolical.

Mental Health: What I’ve Learned

By: Paul Samaha ‘17

This past Friday, I attended and attentively listened to MINDS MATTER: USC Policy on Student Mental Health, a panel discussion on the topic of mental health and what it means to USC specifically. This event was a part of the USC ZYGO series, which is a student lunchtime panel series on ethics and medicine. What made this particular panel special was the variety of voices heard– from USC Student Body President Rini Sampath, to the Engemann Health Center Medical Director Dr. James Jacobs. As you can imagine, the approaches from each of the six panelist were all very different. But there was one commonality between them all: Mental health matters, and we all need to do more as a Trojan family to improve the mental wellbeing of our student body.
