We Know WE CARE. Now what?

By: Kelly Kinas ‘17

On Wednesday April 15th, the Interfraternity Council and Motivate & Empower held a panel and documentary screening on sexual assault on college campuses. The documentary? The Hunting Ground, a documentary about how colleges handle sexual assault on their campuses. The panel? Experts from LAPD, the Center for Women and Men, the Santa Monica Rape Treatment Center, and student activist group RISE. According to this documentary and panel, sexual assault is an epidemic - but what does that mean for us?

SIT DOWN FOR WHAT?

By: Kelly Kinas ‘17

What’s GOING ON? Guys, obviously DANCE MARATHON! On February 21st, 2015, TROJAN DANCE MARATHON was the place to be from 2pm-2am in the Tutor Campus Center Ballroom. With all of these Trojans dancing for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, one would have to ask how it all came about. Well, lucky for you, dear readers, you have me. While most know me as Kelly, TDM knows me at the Director of Morale and Dancer Relations. And we’ve been working for this one night for 7 months. Intrigued? Let me tell you more.

What Shouldn't Matter on the Row

By: Mark Love ‘16

The Row. Aside from Tommy Trojan himself, the Row may possibly be the most famed site at USC. I’ve had the luxury of attending a few Greek parties — without actually rushing any of the fraternities— and the experience was like no other. The raging house parties with boundless amounts of alcohol pretty much mirrored a modern American Pie movie. But besides the rowdy soirees, the Row lauds itself for promoting brotherhood and sisterhood throughout each perspective fraternity and sorority. Many actives proclaimed they have created bonds that will prosper far beyond the barriers of USC. However, a recent scandal in one of the sorority houses disputed the claims of affability and enforced the superficial reputation that hovers over the Greek life.

To Makeup or Not to Makeup: That is MY Question, Not Yours

By: Kelly Kinas ‘17

After being inspired by two Buzzfeed articles about a woman not wearing make-up for a week here and another woman wearing makeup for a week here, I decided to create my own challenge. For one week, I would not wear makeup and write down what happened because it’s only science if you write it down. The next week, I would wear a full face of makeup every day and also write down what happened throughout the days. This would be Monday through Friday.

Election Time

By: Mark Love ‘16

This week marks the beginning of election season on campus. Prepare to see gaudy promotional signs with smiling candidates plastered on them. Look forward to the propositions and promises that the electoral candidates will declare that will hopefully benefit the school. And keep your ears open for at least one Obamaesque speech to commence. Basically, for the next seven days, candidates will compete to gain the votes of their fellow peers. However, these political hopefuls must adhere to the codes of conduct while running for a position. USC has contrived the Election Codes, a series of rules that each candidate must abide by during election week.

By: Grace Carballo ‘17

A recap of the Study Abroad fair: I’m genuinely sorry you missed it; I had an awesome time. As did my dear friend, Kathleen, despite her rather indifferent expression (pictured above).

Holiday Bowl Musings

By: Kelly Kinas ‘17

For me, football season is never over. I love watching sports and cheering my team on, which happens to be one of the reasons why I chose USC. Lucky for me, USC football was good enough this year to be picked for the Holiday Bowl Game in San Diego, CA. It is a tradition of sorts with my family to go to a bowl game most winter breaks from either my current school or one of my parent’s Alma Maters. With San Diego being close to my hometown of Las Vegas, the plans were set and my family was going to watch our Trojans fight against the Cornhuskers.
