The First Annual GOAT Awards
By: Grace Carballo ‘17
Yesterday evening, I attended the 11th Annual Tommy Awards because an organization I am involved in, Women and Youth Supporting Each Other, was nominated for recognition for our service. (Side note, it is currently #WYSEWeek2015 if you want to check out what we’re all about). This was my first time experiencing the Tommy Awards, and though we did not win, and attendance in general was less than I anticipated, there was an impressive display of desserts and that is an award in and of itself.
How to Conquer Vegas in 6 Steps: USC Edition
By: Paul Samaha ‘17
If you’re a USC student, you more than likely know that this time of the year is Vegas Formal season. Fraternities and other organizations around campus hold a formal invite, but instead of the usual invite where you and your date go to a venue for a few hours and come back, this invite is a whole weekend trip in Vegas. Read this post, taken from a crazed Vegas weekend of personal experience.
SC Spotlight: Denise Rockstroh
By: Judy Lee ‘17
Denise Rockstroh is a humble powerhouse of a lady, and I’m so proud to present her as my second SC Spotlight! Denise is majoring in Health Promotion & Disease Prevention/Pre-Med emphasis and is in the class of 2015 (”ahhh graduation!”) She is the director of the Special Events Committee within Program Board, and her favorite snack is frozen blueberries!
How to conquer Coachella
By: Lauren Brose ‘15
Last spring, a group of my friends and I road tripped to the desert, where people camped, hung out with an enormously stellar astronaut, and frequented food trucks that sold watermelon slices larger than my face. This place formed a memory of what I consider one of the happiest weekends ever. I loved it so much that I purchased tickets for next year an entire 10 months in advance.
Top 5 Things that Happened at SpringFest
By: Paul Samaha ‘17
This year’s annual Springfest at USC was a certified banger. With a stacked lineup and attractions all around (including a brand new beer garden!), the student body never saw a dull moment on McCarthy Quad this past Saturday.
Rethinking “Weird”
By: Judy Lee ‘17
I love the song Chandelier. Hell, I love Sia Furler in general. She is an incredible artist and will always be one of my favorites.
Game of Thrones
By: Grace Carballo ‘17
Yesterday was a particularly great day, not only because it was a Monday, but because Special Events Committee pulled some strings and got HBO to host a Game of Thrones prescreening. See that throne I’m sitting on, that’s the Iron Throne, the real one from the set. It wasn’t particularly comfortable but that’s what power feels like and I loved it. There’s really no turning back now.
From Donuts to Billions: The Unlikely Success Story of a Tiger Mom
By: Hannah Kim ‘15
The SoGal summit was the first of its kind- a day-long conference for female entrepreneurs! The day was packed with everything from free snacks to a selfie booth to a pitch competition. It was an opportunity for hundreds of women entrepreneurs/wannabe entrepreneurs to learn from and talk to investors and incubators. It was an incredible event but I was struggling with a bit of a hangover and found that all of the panels and speeches filled me with panic as I realized how much work it takes to create a start-up. What have I been doing with my life? Why have I wasted so much time? How will I ever be an entrepreneur? These despairing questions filled my throbbing head.
Easter @ USC
By: Grace Carballo ‘17
If you are still around campus this weekend and feel a little homesick or miss your family, don’t worry- there are lots of opportunities to celebrate Easter with your Trojan Family and maybe make some new memories.
Tomorrow’s TriFESTa
By: Grace Carballo ‘17
“What are you doing tomorrow?” someone a lot like me might ask you with genuine interest in her tone. If you answered “Nothing” or “Not much” in an effort to curtail this conversation and discourage inevitable follow-up questions, THINK AGAIN. Tomorrow you’re doing much more than “not much” because there are THREE amazing fests (Springfest, Greenfest, and Gearfest) right here on campus for FREE and everyone is welcome.

LA Mag: The Breakfast Conversation Series
By: Hannah Kim ‘15
Los Angeles Magazine recently hosted a panel where women leaders came together to talk about the importance of mentorship. Though they work in different fields and come from disparate backgrounds, these women all share the quality of being a *~badass~*. Whether they’re facilitating youth outreach programs in South Central LA or giving women the perfect blowout, they are empowered leaders who are making a tangible impact in their communities.
