Spring Break Woes

By: Mark Love ‘16

With the first week of school since spring break coming to a close, I couldn’t help but ponder upon the adventures my friends and classmates have embarked on last week. One of my friends backpacked through Scandinavia while a classmate flew to Taiwan to celebrate the week off from school. While listening to their stories, I could only shrug my shoulders and smile hoping that no one asks about my spring break itinerary. Unfortunately, I had to show up to my internship during the week, so my journey towards everlasting merriment definitely hit a roadblock. But instead of mourning my stationary predicament, I decided to take advantage of the wonders that lie within the City of Angels.

My Thoughts on Theatre of The Oppressed

By: Judy Lee ‘17

Tonight was one of many Take Back The Night events hosted by USC’s Women’s Student Assembly (WSA): Theatre of the Oppressed with Gender Justice Los Angeles. Their mission is to: “Build campaigns to break the barriers that directly impact low-income trans people of color by focusing on health, wellness, peace and safety. Run political education and leadership development programs that build a base of skilled, confident and unified trans leaders to fight for change. Create safe spaces through peer-support groups and community events that highlight the strength, power and resilience of our entire community.”

Finnish What We Started

By: Grace Carballo ‘17

While many think of Madness and painstakingly-crafted brackets (to no avail, in my case) when they think of March, here at USC, this month has been chock full of EdMonth and an impressive array of guest speakers. Last night, I had the pleasure of learning about the World’s Education Superpower…

Post-Spring Break Inspiration

By: Grace Carballo ‘17

Break probably came and went too quickly and now you find yourself back at school to face the responsibilities you may have neglected or even forgotten entirely. The workload might be intimidating to tackle, but if not now, then when? Finals end and summer begins in a mere 52 days which is ample time to be productive and fun.

An Expert’s Guide To Napping

By: Lauren Brose ‘15

I’m just gonna put this out there: I really really love naps!! In fact, I took a glorious three 3 hour nap today. A lot of my friends are in full agreement that power naps, no matter how long or short, are better than not having naps at all. So I did some research on the topic of naps and found that not only are they good for your mental alertness but also your overall health.

Snapchat After Dark

By: Mark Love ‘16

Oh, Snapchat. It'sthe photo messaging application that’s taking the world by storm. Thousands of users post every waking moment of their lives on there from selfies and diner to social outings. The app mirrors Instagram except it’s bit more personal. I even stalk my friends on Snapchat for a few minutes to catch myself up on their lives if I haven’t seen them in awhile. Even USC has its own account called “Our Campus Story”, filled with videos and photos of events and the pure aesthetics of the campus that other Trojans posted on their own stories.

I’m not going to post the actual words on here, but just know their chants were laced with the N-word and referenced noosing. The video was released three days ago, and has been shown on numerous news sources from Huffington Post to World Star Hip Hop.
