An Expert’s Guide To Napping
By: Lauren Brose ‘15
I’m just gonna put this out there: I really really love naps!! In fact, I took a glorious three 3 hour nap today. A lot of my friends are in full agreement that power naps, no matter how long or short, are better than not having naps at all. So I did some research on the topic of naps and found that not only are they good for your mental alertness but also your overall health.

Snapchat After Dark
By: Mark Love ‘16
Oh, Snapchat. It'sthe photo messaging application that’s taking the world by storm. Thousands of users post every waking moment of their lives on there from selfies and diner to social outings. The app mirrors Instagram except it’s bit more personal. I even stalk my friends on Snapchat for a few minutes to catch myself up on their lives if I haven’t seen them in awhile. Even USC has its own account called “Our Campus Story”, filled with videos and photos of events and the pure aesthetics of the campus that other Trojans posted on their own stories.
My Opinion on the Latest Race Issue
By: Mark Love ‘16
National uproar commenced when a video of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity members at the University of Oklahoma singing racially charged lyrics on a bus went viral. I’m not going to post the actual words on here, but just know their chants were laced with the N-word and referenced noosing. The video was released three days ago, and has been shown on numerous news sources from Huffington Post to World Star Hip Hop.
USC: Movie School of the World
By: Mark Love ‘16
Going to college in Los Angeles definitely comes with perks. As Trojans, we eat, sleep, and learn in one of the film capitals on Earth. And with our aesthetically appealing campus, many Hollywood films have used USC for various scenes. From beloved romantic comedies to inspirational dramas, our campus has graced its presence more times than you may have realized. Here are a few just to keep you updated on how awesome our school is.
Transfer Troubles
By: Mark Love ‘16
The Undergraduate Student Government hosted an event about a week ago where transfer students voiced their personal perils of being the new kids on the block. The main purpose of this event was for USG to create programs to ease the transfer experience based on what was said at the event. Regrettably, I had class during that time, but I still wanted to share my journey as a fellow transfer student myself to show that you can find your groove even if you did have a late start.
Things You Can't Complain About
By: Grace Carballo ‘17
There’s a tried and true saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” This bit of wisdom does not, however, advise, “When life gives you lemons, tell everyone how your whole life is tainted with a distinctly acidic lemon flavor and how you are just so burdened by the weight of these lemons and that their lemons could not possibly compare to the lemons you’ve been dealing with.”
Social Event Trends at USC
By: Paul Samaha ‘17
USC is traditionally known as a school that has big social events Thursday-Saturday, and this tradition is very much so held true today. However, different party trends come and go. Here are some social event trends that I’ve noticed so far in the 2014-2015 school year.
SC Spotlight: Sydney Liu
By: Judy Lee ‘17
Last semester, I had a realization: we are in a very rare situation in which we are in the midst of people who will shape the future of this world. Seems dramatic, right? Not so far-fetched, though. Our professors have already had huge parts in shaping entire industries . Is it really a surprise that we’ll join them in the ranks soon enough?
I Stopped Caring About How Society Perceived Me & Haven't Felt More Liberated Since
By: Lauren Brose ‘15
When I was in high school I didn’t understand my personal worth. I looked upon my peers for validation and defined my self worth by the number of people who knew and liked me as a person. My lack of self-actualized self-love hindered me from gaining the confidence I now have within myself.
USC Annenberg's 2nd Annual Media Mix & Mingle
By: Lauren Brose ‘15
Ben Blatt is the Executive Director, Digital Strategy at ABC Television. He is the creative genius behind the #TGIT campaign that kicked outa trifecta of prime time television perfection that included back-to-back-to-back episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How To Get Away With Murder. At Annenberg’s 2nd annual Media Mix and Mingle networking event, I had a chance to sit down and listen to Blatt’s insights on digital marketing strategy as he served as the event’s keynote speaker.
Spring Break Destinations Fit For Every College Student
By: Lauren Brose ‘15
My favorite aspect of spring semester isn’t the weather warming up as the snow melts (LOL, California), it’s because we are gifted with a full week to toss our books aside and grasp the first hint of freedom and zero responsibilities. This summer break teaser shouldn’t be taken lightly as it would be a sin to do so. I’m currently working tirelessly on group projects, summer internship applications and study guides for my midterms–– can the end of next week come any quicker? Alas, Spring Break is underway!
